I actually knit something...

It's Nonpareil, from my Etsy buddy Ginny, at FatCatKnits.  I got the roving from her too.  It's called Natalie, and I just bought the last one in the shop, heh heh.  This is for Chip's friend Frank and his wife Michele who just had a baby girl.  I ran out of handspun just before the last button placket, so I picked up some Cascade 220 to finish it off, then knit a little cap to go with it(not pictured).

We spent the last week at the cabin working on Chip's latest folly, The Cottage.  A really really nice little guesthouse next to our cabin at the lake.  I think it's going to be even nicer than the cabin!

Need to come up with a clever name for it....so far I have "The Dog House" and "The Mad House".  So whenever one of is in trouble or pissed off, we have a place to go.  Ha Ha

PS - I heard from one of my cousins who lives in Evansville, In. and found that my aunt and uncle who live in Mt. Carmel were on a plane to Australia when the earthquake hit.  Some of my other cousins who live in Mt. Carmel were home at the time and she said it freaked them out quite a bit.  Nobody hurt, and no property damage, but they have been feeling aftershocks since!

Earthquake

Chip woke me up at six something this morning to tell me that there had been a large earthquake in Mt. Carmel, Il. in the middle of the night.  My dad's sister and her family, all my cousins and their families live in Mt. Carmel and the surrounding area.  Reports are that there are no casualties so I'm not immediately worried, but am waiting to hear word from them.  I'm told some in the KC area felt the rumble.  I did not, but a couple of my dogs are acting a bit strange this morning.  They're acting very needy and they have the scared eyes.

This REALLY makes me want to lay down and take a nap with them....

Under a rock...

Last evening we were to have some company.  My sister-in-law and her husband and his three daughters were coming over for dinner since we had not seen them in a few weeks.  The weather has been getting warmer and we were looking forward to putting the fire pit on the back patio to use.  So, my husband walks in the door from work and asks me what I'm wearing.  It really wasn't phrased or maybe I should say his "tone" didn't make it sounded like he actually was asking because he liked it.  He made a comment like perhaps it was too risque to wear around the kids.  Now, any of you who know me know that that's laughable.  I mean, have your EVER known me to wear anything risque?  So, because I don't take criticism particularly well (never have) I just stomped off to the bedroom to change my top.  He followed me in there and tried to hug me and said "Honey, you know I love you, right?" and then "But you really need to lose some weight." and "We would both be so much happier."  It was all I could do to not just bust out in tears right there.  But I was more mad than sad at the moment so I just pushed him away.  It was humiliating.  I know he's right in a way, but his delivery just left a lot to be desired.

For the past three years I've managed to put on about ten pounds a year and I was already at a weight that I never really wanted to go over.  I feel like I'm just about past the point of no return.  I'm feeling very hopeless and sad.

Yes, I know my pictures suck big time.  Am I going to have to break down and buy the $60 photo studio in a bag from the evil Walmart?  I'm thinking maybe....that and cut down on the caffeine for less shaking.

Even my own mom says my pictures suck.  HI MOM!  By the way, my mom does some serious crochet.  We're going to get her on Ravelry real soon so she can properly show off her talent.  Had breakfast with Mom and Lloyd (my stepdad) yesterday and had the best belly-laugh afterwards in the cafe at Border's regarding mixed up syllables (toin coss vs. coin toss, etc.)  Mom what was yours again?  Something about the cheezy pretzels....  All the lurkers and studiers were casting sideways glances at the snortings and wheezings coming from our raucous table.  OH, and I spent $50 on magazines, MAGAZINES!  sheesh!  (Selvedge was $20 just all by itself, but it's very cool.)

Off to Arkansas tomorrow to the cabin.  It's flooded and sloppy and I just know we'll have some muddy dog feet on the sofa....god bless our neighbors who moved the dock for us when the lake came up two feet in just a couple hours. (Note to self:  buy case of wine for Craig and Susan!)

I had to chuckle at myself this morning because as I was looking for a pair of jeans, I opened this drawer and got a bit of a shock.  I had forgotten that I stored some of the Halloween decorations here last fall.  Maybe I wouldn't have the aptitude for forensics afterall....  :o)

Scenes like this warm my heart.  To think that someone just threw him out like the trash, well....all I can say is "their loss".  Is he not the picture of contentment?

Toot Toot, Tootin' my own horn....

I made this spinner's orifice threading hook last night by special request for one of my Etsy customers.  (Dawn makes some very cool stitch markers, btw!!!)  I am just tickled with how it turned out.  I kinda want to keep it!  She calls it the Gnome Wand.

She asked for a red and white spotted mushroom and a little gnome.  I added the little field mouse for good measure.
