Charlotte Tips
Stitch markers goooood....Its much easier to count your stitches in increments of 8.
You only need rows 1 - 26 of the chart to complete the shawl. Every 16 rows more repeats of the same 8 stitch lace motif are added, one at each end of the shawl, and one on each side of the center panel (4 added every 16 rows). So, all you have to do is make sure you're on the right row, and start repeating that motif until you reach the center, complete the center panel, and then work your way from left to right on the chart. Once you get used to it, its much easier to knit from a chart than from row to row instructions. There is much less chance to lose your place.
Always count your stitches after your RS row! If you skip this, you will not discover an error until your next RS row, and you will have a lot more tinking to do.
Missed yarn overs can be lifted from below w/o having to tink.
Do take the time to do a blocked gauge swatch. The pattern is close on the amount of yarn it calls for, and doing the swatch may save you from running out of yarn before you finish!
Buy two skeins of color 5 if you can. It's highly likely you will run out. Koigu is aware that the pattern cuts it close. Another solution you can use if you cannot get a second skein of color 5 is to work some smaller sections of the first colors in at the end to make your last colors go further.
You may consider buying two skeins of color 4 as well, if you want a good representation of all five colors in your fringe.
