My friend Laura is doing a wonderful thing. Earlier this month the entire town of Greensburg, KS was flattened by a very powerful tornado. There is no downtown, there is no school. There are no homes, or trees. Even the firestation was destroyed. One of the only things left standing was a grain elevator. Laura has started a project "Rebuilding Greensburg, Block by Block". There is also a Flickr group here. She is collecting 8 inch squares through her church and is organizing a group of folks to assemble them this autumn. The finished blankets will be presented to the victims of the storm. These nine squares are my first installment. I pulled out my scraps and just started knitting, adding new yarns in when I ran out. There is a mix of sock yarns and handspun and handdyed yarn.
